MD from University of Oslo, Medical School 1975. Specialist in internal medicine and in nephrology. PhD 1987. Research work in hypertension, gender medicine and clinical nephrology. During the last 20 years mainly been engaged in clinical work in nephrology. Established the Outpatient Clinic of Diabetes in 1991 (moved to Department of Preventive Medicine 2007), and later the Outpatient Clinic of Hypertension in 1993 as part of the Department of Nephrology. Head of the Department of Nephrology 1997-2002. Professor in pharmacotherapy at the University of Oslo 2002-2005. Professor in nephrology at the the University of Oslo from 2005.

Member of the Speciality Council in The Norwegian Association of Medical Doctors. Leader of the University of Oslo Committee for Specialist Education and Updating of Medical Doctors. Member of the Nordic PD-council (for promoting research), Chair of the Genetic Subcomittee in the LIFE study.
