Sverre E. Kjeldsen is Professor and Chief Physician at the Department of Cardiology, Ullevaal University Hospital, Oslo, Norway and Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. His main research interest is the pathophysiology, epidemiology and treatment of human hypertension with more than 250 full peer-reviewed original articles published. He has served as executive or steering committee member of several large clinical outcome trials in hypertension (HOT, NORDIL, INSIGHT, LIFE, VALUE, ASCOT, ACCOMPLISH, SCAST). Dr. Kjeldsen has been President of the European Society of Hypertension 2005-2007, he is a fellow the American Heart Association - the Council for High Blood Pressure Research, and he is a member of the ESH-ESC 2003 and 2007 Hypertension Guidelines Committees. Dr. Kjeldsen received his medical degree from University of Oslo in 1979, his PhD degree from University of Oslo, 1984, and he was a medical resident and fellow in Cardiology at Ullevaal University Hospital and Assistant Professor at University of Michigan 1987-89.
